In 2008 the March full moon fell on Good Friday,
the day after the vernal equinox. The equinox has forever been associated
with ritual, pagan and Christian. That night something very strange
happened in Northern Kentucky. Could it be that a mysterious sighting
of a creature in Erlanger, KY is somehow connected to the Christian
calendar or the cycle of the moon? Could it be...a werewolf?
Since the dawn of history most cultures
around the world have accepted the existence of werewolves and other
shapeshifters. As recent as the 1860's reference books were published
and read about werewolves. In today's liberal culture of skepticism
and cynicism, werewolves have retreated into film and fiction alongside
other monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein. It is now common knowledge
that the Dracula legend originated with the historical Vlad the
Impaler. We know that legends are rooted in historical fact. And
as for Frankenstein, in 2008 we can indeed create a human being
in a lab through the evil of genetic engineering. We can even grow
tissue. Throughout history mankind has recorded monsters in every
place and in every culture. Where there are no monsters the devil
helps men create them. Given the recent sightings in the usually
quiet community of Erlanger, perhaps it is time to reexamine our
position on werewolves as mere fiction. |
